MANILA, Philippines — According to a representative of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, the incoming administration will prioritize justice and freedom.

The CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Liturgy’s Bishop Victor Bendico stated he prays for President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to reject all forms of violence and foster true unity.

“Unity is the core of Pentecost,” Bendico stated in a Saturday interview with Church-run Radio Veritas.

Pentecost Sunday commemorates the fall of the Holy Spirit onto the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem on the 50th day after Easter Sunday.

“Let us not put on a spirit of slavery with the new government.” Let us be guided by the spirit of liberty. “We are free people in a free country,” he declared. “There can only be free people in a free country, citizens who love their country and work hard for the common good.”

Bendico, led by the Holy Spirit, prayed for the healing of any misunderstandings.
