DOT: Frasco requested time off before the tourism video controversy

The Department of Tourism (DOT) acknowledged that Secretary Christina Frasco, its head, would be out of the office for a week beginning July 13 but made it clear that this had been arranged well before the start of the new tourism campaign.

The DOT announced in a statement that Frasco would also be present during the July 24 State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

“On May 9, 2023, Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco submitted her request for a leave of absence. On May 23, 2023, the Office of the President approved this, the department reported.

“She will take a brief break from July 13 to July 21, lasting only seven working days, to spend more time with her young family. She will undoubtedly go to the SONA. Anything to the contrary implied is untrue.

During this time, undersecretary Elaine Bathan will act as secretary.

Days after the issue over the “Love the Philippines” commercial film first appeared in early July, Frasco took a leave of absence.

The advertising firm chosen to develop the rebranding campaign, DDB Philippines, has publicly apologized and accepted full responsibility for the use of stock material recorded in foreign countries in the “Love the Philippines” audiovisual presentation.

According to the advertising firm, the aforementioned video was “intended to be a mood video to excite internal stakeholders about the campaign.”

The DOT decided to end its agreement with the DDB public on July 3.
