Unvaccinated people should stay at home, according to 34 NCR checkpoints.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced on Friday that 34 border checkpoints have been set up in Metro Manila to monitor public compliance with minimum health norms and restrict the movement of unvaccinated people.

In a radio interview, NCRPO spokesperson Lt. Col. Jenny Tecson said the checkpoints are conducting visibility patrols and random checks to see if public transportation vehicles are adhering to the 70 percent capacity rule and if those entering and exiting establishments and other commercial services are fully vaccinated.

We also depend on the rule and ordinance of every cities and we are assisting them to implement properly because our mandate is to meet or prevent the increasing the Covid-19 case and the Omicron variant),โ€ she said.

According to Tecson, tourists must show proof of immunization as well as relevant identity cards.

“We have other means, such as a database that we can check, and the face on one’s ID should also be the same face that appears on immunization cards.” It’s more about collaboration in such cases since every city wants their citizens to be fully vaccinated, and if they are, they have a list in the database. Our recommendation is to avoid using fraudulent ones because there is a penalty),” she stated.

Other “associated forces” or government security troops dispatched for this scenario, according to Tecson, are assisting the NCRPO checks.

The presence of police checkpoints requiring residents to show proof of vaccination status is in accordance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to restrict the mobility of the unvaccinated, particularly in public transportation, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In a statement, DILG Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said, “The DILG and the PNP have begun implementing the measures directed by the President to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, particularly in Alert Level 3 areas where there has been an exponential increase of cases due to the transmission of the Omicron variant.”

If they wish to be permitted admission to PNP checkpoints, malls, and other public venues, including utilizing public transit, he encouraged all motorists and commuters to bring proof of immunization with them at all times.

The construction of checkpoints in border areas of Metro Manila and Bulacan, according to Malaya, is also in accordance with local government legislation restricting the mobility of the uninfected.

For example, on January 4, Quezon City issued Ordinance 3076, which mandates all unvaccinated people to stay at home and is barred from going to restaurants, leisure areas, social outings, malls, and similar venues, as well as public transportation, and imposes penalties for violators.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals must remain in their homes save for required trips under Alert Level 3 or higher, according to a resolution passed by Metro Manila mayors earlier this month. They will also be prohibited from dining indoors and outdoors, as well as from hotels, country clubs, and other similar establishments.

Due to the rise in infections and the threat of the Omicron coronavirus variety, several corporate leaders, medical groups, and organizations have pushed for the limitations to be enforced nationwide.
