According to a Commission on Elections (Comelec) official, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. would be included in the final list of candidates for the May 9, 2022 elections.

The former senator’s name will be on the official ballot, according to Comelec – Education and Information Department Director Elaiza David, because other cases against him have not to be concluded.

“We expect to see him (Marcos) on the ballot,” she stated in a virtual news briefing, “because his cases are still pending and the ballot faces are already ready.”

Five petitions to revoke Marcos’ certificate of candidacy and disqualify him from voting have yet to be decided.

The Comelec Second Division has already dismissed two petitions.

“Obviously, the name will stay on the ballot,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said if a candidate is disqualified before the elections but after the ballots have been produced.

All votes cast for Marcos will be worthless if his party, the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, is unable to replace him in the event of his disqualification.

“Any vote cast for that name on the ballot will be regarded as erroneous,” Jimenez stated.

If a replacement is needed, all votes will be credited to the replacement, who must share the same surname.

“It doesn’t have to be a family member, but he or she must have the same surname,” Jimenez explained.
