The probe into the cyber-hacking of multiple accounts with the Sy-led BDO Unibank Inc is expected to be completed by the end of this month, according to monetary authorities (BDO).

“In addition to that continuing inquiry,” BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno said in a video briefing on Monday, “the BSP continues its cyber threat surveillance with the latest reports that cyber threat actors are increasingly relying on social engineering to perpetuate their fraudulent actions.”

“We continue to aggressively work with law enforcement authorities to apprehend and punish scammers, as well as with relevant government and private sector entities to address growing cyber-related threats and fraud,” he said.

Around 700 BDO accounts were hacked in December, according to monetary officials, with monies fraudulently transferred to multiple Union Bank of the Philippines (Unionbank) accounts.

Diokno previously stated that they were working closely with officials from the two banks as well as other government organizations to track out the criminals.

“The BSP will do all possible to maintain the financial system’s safety and integrity, as well as the protection of financial customers,” he said.
