Malacanang assures ‘Odette’ victims of government support.
On Friday, Malacanang stated that the government will continue to support those affected by Typhoon “Odette.”
Acting presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles cited the latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as saying that as of Friday, 83,026 households or 332,855 people had been preemptively evacuated in Regions 6, 7, 8, 9, and Caraga.
In the 192 evacuation facilities in Regions 5, 6, 8, 10, and Caraga, he said there are 4,989 displaced families or 14,680 people.
According to Nograles, the Department of Social Welfare and Development has provided disaster-stricken households with family food packets and is continuing to work with affected local government units for augmentation support and to ensure that immediate needs are met.
“The government is aiding individuals affected by Typhoon ‘Odette’ around the clock,” he stated in a statement.
In 62 cities and municipalities, power restoration is also underway.
Meanwhile, operations at Mactan Cebu International Airport have been halted till further notice, according to the Department of Transportation.
“We urge the public to remain attentive, stay safe and dry, and cooperate with local authorities in order to protect everyone’s safety,” Nograles stated.
“Odette” was 130 kilometers southwest of Cuyo, Palawan, or 155 kilometers east northeast of Puerto Princesa City as of the 1 p.m. report.
As of writing time, Signal No. 3 is active throughout northern Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran, Roxas, San Vicente, Puerto Princesa City), including Cagayancillo and Cuyo Islands.
