Interior Secretary Eduardo Ao said on Tuesday that reports from the Philippine National Police (PNP) on casualties from Typhoon Odette should be viewed as preliminary since they will have to be validated by the country’s top disaster response agency.

“The PNP report is still in its infancy. DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government) and NDRRMC will continue to verify those deaths (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council). Yung iba kasi diyan ay maaaring hindi directly caused by a typhoon, such as nagkasakit or nakuryente, but later na ng dumaan ang bagyo (Some of the deaths may not be directly caused by the typhoon, say they got sick or electrocuted after the typhoon has passed through). Each death must be verified, and the cadaver must be located “According to Ao, who spoke to the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

According to the PNP’s most recent consolidated report, as of Tuesday midnight, at least 375 people were murdered, 515 were injured, and 56 were still missing as a result of “Odette.”

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said that the typhoon’s death toll had risen to 156 as of Tuesday morning, with 37 people still missing and 275 injured.

It was noted, however, that just nine deaths and two injuries have been confirmed thus far.

Attached to the DILG are the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Meanwhile, he stated that the government is attempting to reach out to all impacted residents as soon as possible to provide them with relief supplies or help.

Alba’s comments followed accusations of looting, particularly in areas affected hard by Typhoon Odette.

Alba stated that they are always willing to assist the government in maintaining peace and order in fuel and water lines.

“The DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) has requested assistance in putting the pricing freeze in place. The PNP is all over the place and ready to help. If you have an issue, simply go to the nearest PNP station. Even if our own cops have been victims, they will help. He stated, “As our mandate is to protect and serve.”
