Pampanga was named the eighth most competitive province in the country on Thursday.

The prize was presented by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) via Zoom during the Central Luzon Regional Competitiveness Summit.

“Maganda po ang grado ng Pampanga pati mga bayan at syudad sa sukatan ng economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency nitong 2021,” said the president. In 2021, the grade of Pampanga, comprising the towns and cities, is strong in terms of economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency. In a social media post, Governor Dennis Pineda said, “We aim to attract new investments).”

Pineda expressed his gratitude to the DTI and the National Competitiveness Council and expressed hope that the new ranking will help the province government overcome the obstacles posed by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic.

He also predicted that the restoration of operations at Clark International Airport (CRK) in Clark Freeport, as well as the ongoing building of the Manila-bound railway project, will boost the local economy.

Meanwhile, the governor expressed gratitude to local officials as well as his constituents for their unwavering support.

“Lahat ng pagtutulungan ng mga nanunungkulan at ng lahat ng Kapampangan nandito sa award na ito,” she said. The competitiveness index of cities, towns, and provinces, according to the DTI, is an annual ranking established by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with support from the US Agency for International Development.

Local governments are graded on four pillars: economic vitality, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency, according to the report.

According to the DTI, provincial rankings are based on population and income, as well as a weighted average of the cities’ and municipalities’ overall scores.
