The PNP will exchange information on missing cockfight fans with the National Bureau of Investigation.
MANILA, Philippines โ The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Tuesday that it is willing to share information with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the suspected disappearance of some cockfight fans.
“We already have witness accounts and other pieces of information that can help with the investigation.” We will gladly share notes with them if they request them. We regard this as a positive milestone in our efforts to cooperate together in resolving these crimes,” said PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos, citing progress in the Criminal Probe and Detection Group’s initial investigation (CIDG).
He said the PNP has been adamant about getting to the bottom of the situation, but that crucial information from the concerned cockpit management, where the missing passengers were last seen, has yet to be received.
“However, the PNP assures the concerned families that it is making every attempt to identify the missing victims and apprehend those responsibly.” The PNP will also take part in a Senate investigation on the matter. He went on to say, “We will be forthright with the case update and all evidence in hand.”
Carlos previously stated that the CIDG is looking into the disappearance of ten individuals who were last seen in various cockfighting areas in Laguna and Manila on January 13th.
The vehicle used by the victims was observed exiting the Coliseum in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, according to closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the arena, but it was unclear whether the victims were inside the vehicle.
Six other men went missing the same day after competing in a cockfighting contest in Manila.
A group of ten men from Bulacan who had gone to a cockfighting contest had previously been added to the list of missing people. These men have been missing for more than eight months, according to their relatives.
On February 17, Justice Secretary Menardo authorized the National Bureau of Investigation to investigate “and, if the evidence warranted, to pursue appropriate charges against all people involved and proven accountable.”
