DOLE assists workers in Bukidnon with P1.5 million monetary claims
CITY OF CAGAYAN DE ORO โ The Department of Labor and Employment’s Bukidnon Provincial Field Office (DOLE-BPFO) has resolved labor disputes involving PHP1,521,848 in monetary claims on behalf of 201 employees of 24 private companies in the province.
DOLE-BFPO Chief Raul Valmores said in a statement Wednesday that the disputes were resolved between January and February through the Single Entry Approach (SEnA) program.
“The workers brought their grievances against their employer to this office via SEnA in order to resolve issues involving (the) underpayment of minimum wage “As Valmores stated.
Additionally, he stated that the SEnA settlement requires respondent companies to pay night shift differential; overtime, holiday, 13th-month, last salary, separation, and retirement claims; and issues related to regularization, including the issuance of a certificate of employment to employees.
The SEnA program is a conciliation-mediation process that enables the resolution of all issues and complaints arising from employer-employee relations in a timely, impartial, cost-effective, and accessible manner, thereby preventing them from escalating into full-blown disputes.
DOLE withheld the name of one complainant, who worked as a dairy farm production supervisor.
She claimed that her previous employer did not provide required benefits such as holiday pay, night shift differential, service incentive leave pay, and 13th-month pay.
“Desperate to receive the benefits I was entitled to, I sought advice from DOLE-10 (Northern Mindanao) in Malaybalay City regarding my situation,” the former supervisor explained.
According to Valmores, the complainant filed for SEnA and was scheduled to meet with her employer.
The first conciliation-mediation conference took place in person.
However, on the second meeting, the complainant requested an online video conferencing session because she was applying for a new job that day.
“I was overjoyed when my former employer agreed to meet via online video conference, which fit my schedule better “According to the complainant.
According to Valmores, the blended approach is now possible due to the Electronic SEnA Management Systems (E-SEnaMS), which enables online complaint filing and video conferencing.
The complaint was resolved and closed upon receipt of the complainant’s PHP39,867 check representing the money claims, via the issuance of a Satisfaction and Release.
According to the complainant, she intended to use the funds to cover pre-employment expenses.
She stated that Ruben T. Biado, DOLE-Desk SEnA’s Officer, accommodated and assisted her well, listened to her complaints, and ensured that she was not intimidated when expressing her concerns.
“I believe this is why the complaint was resolved in a matter of days,” she explained.
Meanwhile, another farm worker-beneficiary received his PHP10,042 compensation.
DOLE-10 urged workers with labor complaints to approach their nearest satellite officers via SEnA Desk Officers (SEADO) or file online at https://sena.dole.gov.ph.
