DUMAGUETE CITY — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced here on Tuesday that the newly authorized PHP31 across-the-board pay rise will be retroactive if businesses are unable to apply it immediately due to the lack of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).

After the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB-7) in Central Visayas authorized the wage adjustment recently, Ma. Teresa Tanquiamco, who oversees the DOLE in Negros Oriental and Siquijor, told the Philippine News Agency that they are still waiting for the IRR.

“Following its approval, the wage orders will become effective on June 14, or 15 days after publishing in a national circulation newspaper and approval by the National Wages and Productivity Commission,” Tanquiamco explained.

According to her, the RTWPB-7 granted a PHP31 rise in the minimum daily salary for domestic workers and a PHP500 adjustment for “kasambahay,” or house help.

The current PHP366 minimum daily pay will be increased to PHP397.

Tanquiamco stated that this is the largest income increase for local minimum wage laborers in many years.

In the meanwhile, following the pay change, house helps will now receive PHP5,000 per month, up from PHP4,500 previously.

The DOLE provincial chief stated that once the IRR is received, notices will be sent to the establishments in the area so that they can be instructed properly.

Employers are required to pay their workers the wage increase retroactive to the date of effectivity if there is still no IRR before June 14, she said.
