SGH will transform into a regional hospital in 2023.
The management of the Soccsksargen General Hospital (SGH) in Surallah municipality has been transferred from the South Cotabato provincial government to the Department of Health (DOH) in preparation for the hospital’s conversion to a regional facility.
The transfer occurred as a result of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the payment of the DOH of PHP100 million to the provincial government for the SGH construction and operations expenses in the past, according to Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. on Saturday.
During the MOU signing ceremony on Friday afternoon, Tamayo stated, “The health department has agreed to pay, but we are not in a rush to collect more than PHP100 million.”
Dr. Ceril Borromeo, the head of SGH, stated that after meeting all standards, they will complete the application for Level 1 of the hospital right away and then for Level 2 to function as a regional hospital by January of the following year.
In a separate interview on Saturday, Borromeo added, “We will process the license, aside from the 75-bed capacity, we have the birth room and operation room, and we have the rest of the requirements for level 1.
“The intensive care unit is the only additional need for level 2.” (ICU). We already have floor plans and area plans for everything, but the SGH needs to be upgraded because it is currently merely a general hospital, the woman stated.
Borromeo noted that the hospital’s bed capacity would expand from 100 to 300 if it reached Level 2.
She believes this will help the hospital reopen to the public in August of this year.
There are now no admissions at the SGH, according to her, and their personnel is performing outreach initiatives in Surallah and the nearby communities while also receiving training to improve their skills.
Republic Act 11102, which required the construction of the SGH in Surallah, was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in October 2018.
It made it possible for the South Cotabato provincial administration to extend the provincial hospital in Koronadal City by converting the Upper Valley Community Hospital in Surallah to SGH.
