Imported sugar’s permitted entry has been extended until October 31: SRA
The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) modified Sugar Order (SO) 3 to extend the period during which imported sugar may enter the nation.
The deadline for allowing “any imported sugar” into the nation was changed from September 30 to October 31 in the modified SO 3.
According to the SRA, importers have requested extensions of the scheme for the crop years 2021–2022, citing certain delays.
Whereas the SRA received requests to postpone the arrival date of any imported sugar under the aforementioned importation program due to vessel delays and a lack of readily available container vans, which were encountered locally and internationally, the SRA stated.
The revised SO 3 also permitted the “transfer or selling of parts” of their import quota in addition to the extension.
Section 2 of the modified SO stated that “industrial users, hereafter to be referred to as the assignors, are entitled to transfer or sell part or the complete volume of the sugar imported under this order to other industrial users or assignees.”
This is predicated on the assumption that assignors and assignees “comply with the documentary requirements” outlined in the modified SO.
The remaining “C” reserved sugar could be reclassified as “B” domestic sugar, according to Section 3.
The importation of 200,000 metric tons of refined sugar for use by industries was authorized by SO 3, series of 2021–2022.
