124 flights were canceled, and MIAA is preparing for Paeng
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is now preparing for Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng, which is predicted to pass across the Cavite-Metro Manila-Bataan Peninsula area during the day. As of now on Saturday, 124 domestic and international flights have been canceled.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport is prepared for Paeng, the MIAA told the public in a statement released in the afternoon.
Issue services are ready to respond to any structural or aircraft emergency. The warehouse will remain open for any supply needs, and the motor pool’s service cars and drivers are available for dispatch at any time.
Food vendors at the airport have been asked to prepare extra supplies in case travelers choose to stay there due to aircraft delays or cancellations.
Airlines were instructed to follow safety procedures during severe weather, including securing their ground equipment and, if required, evacuating aircraft to safer grounds.
A maximum ramp and check-in staff deployment was encouraged for ground handlers.
Foreign airline operators that were impacted, according to MIAA, used planned cancellations. Once at NAIA, passengers from these aircraft will be processed for hotel accommodations and rebooking.
Local airlines have also used scheduled delays and cancellations for the day. They will submit their suggested retiming and recovery flight schedule to MIAA. To allow for recovery flights, MIAA has lifted the daily maintenance closure of the main runway.
Before leaving for the airport, customers were warned by MIAA to regularly watch airline websites and social media pages as well as water on the roadways.
As of 3:20 p.m., the following list of flights had been canceled:
