Fully restored power in Meralco franchise areas

Following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng last weekend, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced on Wednesday morning that power has been entirely restored in all of its franchise regions.

The Department of Energy (DOE) stated in its most recent energy situation report that “as of 1100H on 02 November 2022, Meralco has restored all affected facilities by STS Paeng and has returned to normal operations.”

A total of 4,002,292 consumers in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon, according to Meralco, experienced both brief and prolonged power outages as a result of Paeng.

Meralco stated in a Viber message, “What we’re doing now is checking if there are any more families that are still without power and our line team is handling these concerns.”

According to data from the National Electrification Administration (NEA), the onslaught of Paeng had an impact on nearly 9.55 million customers in 1,173 towns. All consumer connections were fully restored in about 90.40 percent of cases.

As of Wednesday morning, 63 of the 93 electric cooperatives (ECs) in the country that was impacted by Paeng were running normally, according to the NEA, while the remaining 33 ECs were experiencing partial power outages.

The DOE additionally stated that three Paeng-affected power reactors have all been restarted.

The weekend’s severe weather forced the shutdown of the Pagbilao coal-fired power plant, the Bacman geothermal power plant, and Quezon Power Philippines Ltd.’s (QPPL) coal-fired power plant.

Nine diesel power plants (DPPs) are operational or on standby in anticipation of the restoration of the distribution lines, according to the DOE. “As of 0800H on 02 November 2022, there are three diesel power plants (DPPs) in Romblon and Camarines Sur Mini Grid that are back to normal operation,” it added.
