Revenue from tourism reaches P100 billion as arrivals reach 2 million: DOT

The Philippines’ tourism industry brought in PHP100 billion this year, while the number of tourists who came to the nation increased to over 2 million, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).

As of November 14, according to the most recent DOT data, 2,025,421 people had entered the country since the borders reopened in February 2022.

1,487,343 arrivals, or the majority, are international tourists; 538,078 arrivals, or 26.57 percent, are abroad Filipinos.

The February to September 2022 arrivals alone generated an anticipated PHP100.7 billion in tourism earnings, representing a 1938.14 percent increase over the PHP4.94 billion in collections from the same period the previous year.

“Our most recent numbers much exceed the DOT’s prediction of 1.7 million tourists. This demonstrates the enormous desire for travel to our stunning nation and the fact that the Marcos administration has prioritized tourism, putting our nation on the path to recovery “Christina Frasco, director of tourism, remarked.

“Therefore, we must continue to implement supportive measures that will signal the country’s openness to receiving more visitors as well as its support for the development of the tourism industry and opportunities for livelihood for our fellow Filipinos,” she stated.

With 385,121 tourists, the United States continues to be Manila’s biggest source market. South Korea and Australia follow with 285,583 and 96,297 visitors, respectively.

Canada and the United Kingdom, with 89,248 and 77,267 respectively, are in fourth and fifth place.

Japan (75,564), India (41,292), Singapore (39,801), Malaysia (35,128), and Vietnam (32,970) are the other nations that reached the top 10 list of the nations that send the most tourists to the Philippines.
