PBBM applauds Manny Villar’s contribution to improved PH-Japan relations

Business mogul and former Senate president Manuel “Manny” Villar have received praise from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his crucial contribution to the development of ties between the Philippines and Japan.

This came after Marcos saw Villar receive the Order of the Rising Sun from the Japanese government on Friday during a ceremony held in the Ceremonial Hall of Malacanang Palace.

“Iyong pagkakahirang at naging kontribusyon sa ating bansa. Isang pagpupugay. We appreciate all that you have done for our nation by saying “mabuhay ka.” Live long! “On Friday evening, Marcos uploaded many images of the ceremonial awarding on Facebook.

The honor was given to Villar by Kazuhiko Koshikawa, the Japanese Embassy’s representative in the Philippines, according to a separate Facebook post from the government-run Radio Television Malacanang (RTVM).

Senator Cynthia Villar and Senator Mark Villar, as well as Las Pinas Rep. Camille Villar, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Vista Land President and CEO Manuel Paolo Villar III, were also present at the ceremony.

Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, a representative for Ilocos Norte’s first district and the president’s son, attended the occasion.

Those who have notable accomplishments in their profession, honorable service, and contributions to the growth of Japan in a range of areas—aside from military duty—are given the Order of the Rising Sun, a Japanese order of honor, by the Japanese government.

The Order of the Rising Sun was given to Villar on April 29, 2022, as announced by the Japanese Embassy in Manila in appreciation of his services to strengthen the economic links between Tokyo and Manila.

According to RTVM, Marcos acknowledged Villar’s crucial contribution to the improvement of the Philippines’ bilateral ties with Japan during the occasion.

According to the statement, “The President acknowledges Villar’s substantial contribution to the existing robust bilateral relations between the Philippines and Japan.”

According to RTVM, Marcos underlined the administration’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and looking into possible areas of cooperation.

Additionally, “he expresses his openness to explore potential areas of collaboration with Japan and emphasizes his commitment to maintaining the trajectory of diplomatic ties between the two countries,” the statement continued.

The JPEPA and the Protocol Amending the Convention Between Japan and the Philippines for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Regard to Income Taxes were adopted in October and September 2008, respectively, while Villar served as the Senate’s president.

Additionally, he was in favor of the ratification of the technical cooperation agreement between the Philippines and Japan, which was approved by the Senate in March 2011.
