Buy Filipino goods, local manufacturers urged
Filipino consumers are being urged by local manufacturers to buy locally produced goods for Noche Buena and Christmas gifts.
“We have consistently advocated for the support of regional food producers. We implore everyone to purchase food from local farmers and small- and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs). When we purchase from them, we not only help their products sell more, but we also guarantee that they have a reliable source of revenue. In a news release on Tuesday, Asis Perez, the former national director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), said, “Buying local products would be your present to them. Ngayong Pasko, aguinaldo niyo na sa mga kababayan natin ang pagbili ng mga producto nila.
Perez claimed that regional food producers are increasing their output for both domestic and export markets as the economy bounces back from the pandemic.
Mailyn Villasin is one of them; her homemade gourmet tuyo and tinapa are currently offered for sale in Taiwan, Dubai, and Hong Kong. With a beginning capital of PHP 15,000, she launched her firm in 2018 in Lucena City, where she was born and raised.
“Everyone should be proud of Filipino products. They are higher quality and more flavorful. There are lots of delectable regional foods available here. Just buy goods from our local farmers and producers instead of purchasing Christmas presents from abroad. Supporting and buying local products is the right thing to do. They make wonderful presents for our friends and family. You not only support our neighborhood companies, but those goods are also healthier and beneficial to your health, according to the CEO and owner of Tasty Bites.
The Samahan sa Industriya ng Cacao Pangkabuhayan (SICAP) Quezon Agriculture Cooperative’s president, Bonifacio Orgas, noted that local food goods make excellent gifts for people traveling to or returning from overseas.
“The chocolates created in Quezon Province are just as delicious as those made abroad. Someone just placed an order for 35 chocolate pouches to be shipped to Canada. For sale in Taguig, another person requested 2 cases of 750 ml cocoa wine. An Atimonan resident purchased 30 sachets. From my home, I sell my goods here, Orgas remarked.
The family-owned company, Grand Central Manufacturing Inc. (GCMI), which produces Giana Deli Products, has maintained its ties with regional suppliers during good times and bad, according to Gloria Villanueva, manager of GCMI.
“GCMI continues to use locally sourced meats and spices to make premium ham and sausages. We conducted online sales and concentrated on packing activities during the pandemic. We continued to work with regional vendors during this irregular season, building a mutually beneficial and long-lasting partnership, Villanueva added.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) organizes regional trade shows that include locally produced goods from farmers, fishermen, and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs).
The One Town One Product (OTOP) program has been modified to OTOP Next Generation to promote more than one product, according to Honeylee Eclavea, Trade and Industry Development Specialist of DTI-Quezon.
“We want to test a novel, fresh idea. The product must be original, in accordance with product standards, and licensed to operate by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). We are enhancing one food product’s packaging and labeling with OTOP Next Gen. According to the DTI OTOP Coordinator in Quezon, we are also advocating strict labeling regulations.
Buy locally and shop at your neighborhood trade center. By purchasing their goods, you support the neighborhood, local businesses, and farmers. “Support Filipino-made things,” Eclavea continued.
