Marcos spreads holiday happiness to children throughout PH
During a nationwide gift-giving event on Sunday at the Malacanang Palace Grounds, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. pleased kids with gifts like backpacks and toys.
As part of an early Christmas celebration, Marcos stated in a speech during “Balik Sigla, Balik Saya: Nationwide Gift-Giving Day” that it was customary for the President to give out gifts to kids in the Palace.
“Hindi kumpleto ang kahit anong Pasko kung hindi natin nakikita ang ngiti at tuwa ng ating mga anak, ang ating mga apo, ang ating mga kabataan,” the statement continued. As a matter of tradition, today in Palasyo finds me attending a children’s celebration in honor of Pasko. (Christmas would not be complete if we did not see the smiles of our children, grandchildren, and young people.) It has been a long-standing custom for the Palace to host a children’s party around Christmas, which is why today is a very, very happy day for me),” he remarked.
He claimed that the purpose of the yearly celebration is to guarantee a joyful Christmas for every youngster in the nation.
“So we can make sure that all children across the country celebrate Christmas and there’s a small party, gift-giving, games, and all of that,” he continued. “Para naman lahat nakasiguro tayo lahat ng ating kabataan sa buong Pilipinas at merong konting party, me konting gift-giving, me konting palaro, at lahat ‘yan.”
According to Marcos, 40 venues around the nation are simultaneously hosting the national gift-giving event.
Zoom was also used to Livestream the gift-giving events in several locales.
O Holy Night and “I Wish You a Merry Christmas” were performed by a children’s choir for Marcos and his wife, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
The generosity of private companies and public organizations, including the Office of the President, Departments of Health, Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, was responsible for the gifts that the kids at Malacanang received.
Marcos recalled how he used to take part in the activities when he was younger, noting that the custom started when his father was alive.
The magicians are on stage right now, I see. There were no inflatables, games, or inflatables on the stage where the magicians performed. Only food and activities were available; there were no inflatables yet. I’m simply carrying on the custom that my father started. All the kids would come, and it was the funniest day. “I also used to play with other youngsters,” he remarked, “Nakikilaro din ako noon.”
Marcos presided over the Malacanang Palace’s annual lighting of the Christmas tree on Saturday.
In his speech, Marcos expressed his long-held conviction that Christmas is “true for the children” and pledged that the government would do everything in its power to make sure that every Filipino child could celebrate the season.
Given that the coronavirus outbreak restricted public movement, he claimed that Christmas provides Filipinos with a renewed feeling of hope.
“Tatlong Taon na Tayo nakapag-pasko na kagaya ng pasko ng Pilipino. When you are in the Philippines, then Iba is what you are pagdiriwangng ng pasko. We were unable to celebrate Christmas the way we usually do for three years. There was nothing we could do to bring about a more joyful world for our loved ones. When we celebrate Christmas in the Philippines, it is incredibly different. People in the Philippines, especially youngsters, are extremely joyful when they celebrate Christmas, in contrast to other nations, he said.
The Christmas tree was lit in the presence of Araneta-Marcos, former first lady Imelda Marcos, and Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Additionally, Marcos presented prizes to the winners of the “Isang Bituin, Isang Mithiin” national parol-writing contest.
