Celebrate Christmas in open areas and the outdoors: DOH

To avoid the potential spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and other flu-like illnesses, the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday suggested that people host their Christmas celebrations outside or in public places.

Officer in Charge of DOH Additionally, Maria Rosario Vergeire urged anyone hosting parties indoors or in enclosed locations to open windows to let fresh air circulate.

In a media forum, Vergeire stated, “This Christmas season, the government does not want to limit partying, because it is allowed, most areas in the country are under alert level 1, but we have to think that we can still get sick.”

She advised the partygoers to check to see whether they were experiencing symptoms of Covid-19.

In her words, “If you know in yourself that you have been exposed to a positive individual, or you know for yourself na mayroon kayong nararamdaman na sintomas, huwag na po kayo mag-attend (that you have symptoms, do not attend the party) and this can provide protection to your officemates or your families having the reunion.”

She advised people who have not yet received their initial series of Covid-19 vaccinations to visit the closest immunization facility to get protected against the illness because Christmas is still a week away.

This Christmas season’s weather change brings coughs, colds, and influenza, all of which can be avoided by following the minimum public health requirements of donning face masks, properly washing one’s hands, and maintaining good health.

Additionally, the non-communicable diseases that are prevalent during the holidays because of stress and overeating are warned against by Filipinos.

We notice that there are more cases of hypertension, heart attacks, and stroke in December, January, and February as a result of these Christmas-related activities, Vergeire said. “Makikita natin ‘yan, December, January, and February po ang incidence ng mga inaatake sa altaparesyon, inaatake sa puso, naso-stroke (We observe that there are more cases of these conditions in these three months).

“Let us be careful, take things moderately, our worries, our vices like drinking and eating foods that are not) proper diet,” she continued. “Let us be cautious, let us take things moderately, our stresses, our vices like drinking and eating foods that are not) proper diet.”
