Since July, the DPWH has built and repaired more than 1,000 km of roads.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Tuesday that it had complied with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to build bridges, flood control structures, and school buildings that are of high quality and efficiency.

The DPWH reported that from July to November of this year, it built, maintained, and rehabilitated 1,105 kilometers of roads in its accomplishment report distributed by the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS).

In addition, it has improved and restored 2,575 school buildings for use by public school children, 650 flood control structures, and a total of 112 bridges.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) also stated that during the same time frame, it had constructed about 75 kilometers of farm-to-market roads with funding from the Department of Agriculture (DA), as part of the government’s commitment to assisting farmers in getting their produce to public markets.

significant infrastructure projects

The Cavite-Laguna Expressway, the North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway (NLEX-SLEX) Connector Road, the Central Luzon Link Expressway, the Cagayan de Oro River Flood Management Project, the Samar-Pacific Coastal Road, and the Mindanao Growth Corridor Road Sector Project are some of the major infrastructure projects undertaken by the DPWH.

The Davao City Bypass Construction Project, the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge, the Panguil Bay Bridge, the Samal Island-Davao City Bridge, and road network development projects in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao are also on the DPWH’s list.

One of the agency’s top priorities under the administration’s socioeconomic plan is a program to relieve traffic congestion by building high-quality motorways, expressways, bypasses, diversion roads, flyovers, and interchanges.

disaster relief

The DPWH has been actively involved in disaster response as well.

According to the DPWH’s report to Malacaang, the government responded to many disaster regions caused by earthquakes and the series of typhoons that rocked the country this year with more than 7,000 employees on the ground.

The DPWH sent out 1,711 pieces of equipment and cleared 168 road sections in several provinces from Luzon to Mindanao in addition to sending out employees.

more significant initiatives

Additionally, the DPWH is aggressively working on the Integrated and Seamless Transport System Program, which includes enhancing the Daang Maharlika, building mega bridges and inter-island links, and filling in gaps on national roads.

It will build and upgrade access roads leading to tourist sites, industry and trade corridors, roll on/roll-off (RORO) ports, airports, and railroad stations under its Rural Roads Convergence Program.

Based on the DPWH program, farm-to-market and farm-to-mill roads will be constructed to assist the government’s Agri-infrastructure Support Program.

In order to build more habitable, sustainable, and resilient communities, the DPWH is also conducting initiatives on flood management, water management, and basic social infrastructure support.
