Crime rates in PH decline by 6.37% in the second half of 2022: PNP
According to a report released on Monday by the Philippine National Police (PNP), the crime rate in the nation decreased by 6% between July and December of last year, during the first half of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
PNP commander Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. stated at a press conference in Camp Crame that 105,568 criminal occurrences were reported in the second half of 2022, which is 6.37 percent fewer than the 112,746 incidents reported in the same time of 2021.
Following Mindanao with a 12.29 percent decrease in crime events was Luzon with a 7.35 percent decrease.
However, crime incidences in the Visayas increased by 5.65%.
Theft, rape, and physical harm were the top three most common offenses for both six-month periods, according to Azurin.
In addition, he noted that crime solution effectiveness remained at a record-high 81.78 percent in 2022, up significantly from the previous high of 80.51 percent set in 2021.
According to Azurin, the PNP would concentrate its efforts this year on combating cybercrimes that affect hundreds of Filipinos both domestically and abroad.
According to him, one of the biggest concerns to the millions of users of cyberspace whose personal information is accessible online is cybercrime.
SMART Policing, or Secured, Mobile, Artificial Intelligence-Driven, Realtime Technology, is a strategic approach that integrates more “science” into police operations by utilizing cutting-edge applications of analysis, technology, and evidence-based practices, Azurin said. “Our outlook and way forward in 2023 will largely involve further enhancement of anti-criminality capacity through SMART Policing,” he added.
