PNP investigates bogus full alert memo regarding “establishment”

Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., the head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered an investigation on Monday into any oversights in the distribution of a document requesting a full alert status to thwart an alleged destabilization plot by the Philippine Armed Forces (AFP).

Dexter, police lieutenant colonel Dexter (Ominga), will undoubtedly be the subject of an investigation, the PRO (Police Regional Office) of Cordillera will make sure of it. At a press conference at Camp Crame in Quezon City, Azurin briefed the media on the investigation into the meaning of the document that spread over the weekend.

Colonel Dexter will be given the proper charges and any punishments for his errors, kung meron man (if any), he said.

The document’s dissemination on social media will also be investigated by the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG).

The PNP-ACG has started an investigation to identify the author of the social media post that claimed that a destabilization had put the PNP on full alert. According to PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo, “Whoever is found guilty of spreading the false information would be penalized, as the PNP Chief stated.

Azurin disregarded the alleged attempt to destabilize the AFP, adding that both the PNP and the AFP operate normally, particularly during this period of time when important religious festivities like the Sinulog Festival in Cebu and the Feast of the Black Nazarene are taking place.

He claimed to have discussed working together to maintain the stability of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration with AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Andres Centino.

“Therefore, I don’t believe there is a destabilization, as far as that is concerned. He promised that the PNP and the AFP would cooperate to make sure that the Marcos government was highly stable, according to Azurin.

He claimed that the Winner B150 chopper featured in the social media sensational photographs was undergoing repair.

At the military’s headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, on Saturday, during the handover of power between Centino and departing AFP chief Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, rumors of the destabilization plot began to circulate.

All PNP units are to be placed on high alert as a result of “growing issues in Camp Aguinaldo,” “resignation of all staff in DND (Department of National Defense),” and “destabilization movements from the AFP,” according to the letter that was circulated.

Col. Medel Aguilar, a spokesman for the AFP, however, shot off the rumors and declared that the change of leadership went “smoothly.”

Professional and pro-Constitution AFP officers

The nation’s military officers, according to former PNP chief Panfilo Lacson, are largely devoted to their sworn duties and the Constitution.

This was in response to unrest rumors that surfaced after Centino was named military commander, with certain Department of National Defense (DND) officers purportedly preparing to leave over the issue.

“The newly appointed AFP chief of staff Gen. Andres Centino, the recently retired Lt. Gen. Bartolome Bacarro, the DND OIC (officer-in-charge), Jose Faustino Jr., and two or three DND undersecretaries are all graduates of the PMA (Philippine Military Academy) Class of 1988. Even within PMA batchmates, there are occasionally dynamics brought on by ties to personal groups and allegiances that cannot be ignored. The OIC and Senior DND Undersecretary Faustino reportedly told a few close friends last month that he would resign if Lt. Gen. Bacarro were to be replaced. That may have precipitated the alleged “mass resignation” within the DND, “added Lacson.

He said that the PNP had clarified the justification for its purportedly increased alert status, which rumors purported to support.

The alleged “mass departure” of DND personnel, which proved to be a rumor, was for another reason, unrelated to any destabilization, Lacson claimed.

Prior to the Black Nazarene festival in Manila, the PNP claimed that these precautions were taken to maintain security.
