PAGASA: The possibility of 1 tropical cyclone in January still exists.

According to a senior weather expert of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the nation may have either none or one tropical cyclone this month.

For the remainder of January, Chris Perez of PAGASA predicted that 0–1 tropical cyclones would approach the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

“So far, we have already kept track of two low-pressure areas (LPAs). Due to LPA that could impact the nation, we are not completely ruling out the likelihood of a tropical storm before the month is out “He remarked during a press conference.

PAGASA is now keeping an eye on an LPA that was last seen 230 km to the east and southeast of Butuan City in the province of Agusan del Norte.

Perez stated there is a remote possibility that this LPA will intensify into a tropical cyclone.

He added that this LPA could bring precipitation to Southern Luzon in the upcoming two to three days because to its slow migration towards the Visayas and Mindanao territories.

Residents of such areas are urged to keep an eye on the PAGASA regional services division’s localized rainfall advisory. They are also exhorted to coordinate preparation and mitigation efforts with local government and catastrophe risk reduction officials.

Due to the combined effects of the LPA and the shear line, Perez said Eastern and Central Visayas, the northeastern half of Mindanao, and a portion of the Bicol Region are anticipated to continue receiving rainfall in the next three days.

Perez claimed that La Nia, which is still present in the nation, is causing some regions to see above-average rainfall. February is predicted to be the end of La Nia.

After that, a neutral and regular climate may prevail, he said.
