Over 180 ships are expected to participate in the Sto. Nino de Cebu river parade.

The Holy Images of the Sr. Sto. Nino de Cebu and Our Lady of Guadalupe will be carried on a “Galleon” in a river procession on Saturday morning, according to the Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas (PCG-7) on Friday.

More than 180 boats and vessels have registered to participate in the parade, which will begin at the Naval Base Rafael Ramos, the central command of the Naval Forces, in Barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City, according to Lt. Junior Grade Stephen Pagcaliwagan, a spokesperson for PCG-7.

Over 130 motorbancas and small boats, 17 tugboats, and 17 yachts will also join the procession.

The Holy Child and Our Lady of Guadalupe’s images have been transferred from Cebu City to the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City, according to Fr. Nelson Serda, rector of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino de Cebu.

The photos will be sent to Lapu-Lapu City after a send-off Mass in Mandaue Parish Church.

The Sto. Nino image will be transported to the National Shrine of the Birhen sa Regla (Our Lady of the Rule) in Lapu-Lapu City at 11 p.m. tonight (Friday) in preparation for the fluvial procession at dawn on Saturday, the Augustinian friar announced.

A Holy Mass will be held at the Nuestra Senora Virgen de Regla National Shrine at 4 a.m. on Saturday before the images are brought by a mobile procession to the Naval Base in Barangay Canjulao in Lapu-Lapu City, where the fluvial activities will start.

The procession will extend all the way to the NuStar Casino Resort and Casino at Kawit Point of the South Road Properties, passing beneath the famous Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, where the Galleon bearing the image of the Sto. Nino and other seagoing vessels will make a turn before returning to Pier 1.

solemn procession on foot

The priests, clergy, and a few devotees will receive the image at Pier 1 after the fluvial procession has passed by the Mactan Channel. The image would then be returned to the Basilica Minore di Sto Nino for the solemn foot procession that afternoon.

Serda will conduct the clergy in a solemn mass on Saturday morning to commemorate the first mass celebrated in the Philippines.

A solemn foot procession will be staged for the Holy Child’s image from the 457-year-old Basilica across the uptown area of the nation’s capital city and back to the church on the same day at 1 p.m.

Following the arrival of the sacred image at 6 o’clock, Cebu’s Auxiliary Bishop Ruben Labajo will celebrate the “Visperas” pontifical service.

On Fiesta Senor Sunday, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will guide the faithful to a pontifical liturgy in the Pilgrim Center of the Basilica.
