Edcel Grex Lagman, governor of Albay, has committed to work, even more, to provide his countrymen with the best public healthcare system possible.

This comes after the Department of Health in Bicol (DOH-5) commended the provincial government of Albay for successfully carrying out its 2022 health projects.

At the 11th Salud Bikolnon Awards last Friday, the province won the Green Achievers Award in addition to 21 other honors, outperforming the other five provinces in the region.

In a Monday interview, Lagman said: “We will utilize these accolades and recognitions as a motivation to provide the greatest health care that is responsive, accessible, and efficient to our fellow Albayanos as our means of empowering and making them useful members of our society.”

The governor expressed his appreciation to the Salud Bikolnon committee, the DOH-Bicol, and other parties involved, particularly the staff members of the Albay Provincial Health Office (APHO) and its extension service providers.

The district hospitals, doctors of the Albay Medical Society, and municipal and city rural health units (RHU) were also praised by the governor for their effective service.

The following awards were given to the province of Albay: Chikiting Ligtas Award; Top Performing Province for Mass Drug Administration for Deworming; Top Performing Province for Population Tuberculosis (TB) Testing Rate (Top Performing Province during the MR-Td Campaign and Chikiting Ligtas Bakunation Days).

Given that the province is still rebuilding from the ravages of the epidemic and the most severe typhoons in recent memory, according to Lagman, this year’s prize has greater significance.

He claimed that while these tried the citizens and the provincial government’s resolve, he is confident that Albay is on the road to recovery, greater prosperity, and economic advancement.

The Department of Health’s (DOH) Bicol Center for Health Development’s most esteemed and enduring award is the Salud Bikolnon.

Each year, DOH-5 takes the lead in recognizing outstanding practices in health governance by local governments and other sectors.

This year’s awards ceremony theme was “Pagkaburunyog para sa Salud nin Kagabsan.”
