The highly contagious Omicron subvariants have been found in 613 new cases, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The FDA said that 694 samples were sequenced on January 28 by the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center in its most recent Covid-19 biosurveillance report.

252 samples, or 36.31% of the total, were categorized as BA.2.3.20, 201 samples, or 28.96%, XBB, 25 samples, or 3.61%, as BA.5 (with 18 cases categorized as BQ.1), 15 samples, or 2.16 %, XBC, two samples, or 0.29 %, as BA.2.75 and 118 samples, or 17 %, as other Omicron sublineages.

All extra BA.2.3.20 and XBB cases, with the exception of Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region, were local cases, according to the DOH.

According to the report, 16 of the 25 BA.5 cases discovered were local cases from the Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Central Visayas, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and NCR. The other nine instances involved returning overseas Filipinos.

The two cases of BA.2.75 were from Central Visayas and Caraga, while the 15 additional XBC cases came from the Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccskargen, and Caraga.

According to DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire on Tuesday, recent case trends are either plateauing or declining, but because the “virus crosses borders,” the public must be on guard and follow the bare minimum of health and safety precautions, like getting vaccinated and wearing face masks.
