On February 7-8, DSWD will host an ASEAN cross-sectoral dialogue.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Inter-Sectoral Consultation for the finalization of two significant outcome documents will be held on February 7-8, according to a statement made on Monday by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The ASEAN Social Work Consortium, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office are working together to carry out this consultation in accordance with the duties of the DSWD as the focal agency representing the Philippines to the ASEAN Sectoral Body on Social Welfare and Development.
Regional Guidance on Strengthening the Role of Social Workers and the Wider Social Service Workforce in “Health” and Regional Guidance on Strengthening the Role of Social Workers and the Wider Social Service Workforce in the “Justice System” were the two documents that needed to be finished.
The virtual consultation would offer a chance to solicit opinions and additional information from ASEAN partners and other international organizations in order to improve and complete the regional guidance.
The aforementioned consultation is also anticipated to address issues and go over potential ways to strengthen the roles, capabilities, and workforce of social work and the larger field of social services in the health and judicial systems.
The member states of ASEAN (AMS) recognize the value of the regional guideline texts. These would help the entire social welfare and development sector in each ASM as well as the policymakers, managers, and government representatives in each ASM. The materials will also aid AMS in organizing, fostering, and assisting the workforce of social workers and other social service providers.
The guideline materials will be crucial for meeting the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized groups in society as well as for providing inclusive, accessible, interdisciplinary, and responsive social services to improve quality of life.
In accordance with its commitment, the DSWD will keep supporting ASEAN initiatives that promote camaraderie and global solidarity.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also expressed gratitude to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for quickly releasing the PHP151 billion budget for the implementation of social protection programs and services.
The quick distribution of the funds will benefit the underprivileged and vulnerable groups since they will continue to get much-needed support from the government.
The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP), and Protective Services for Individuals and Families in Difficult Circumstances are among the DSWD’s major social protection programs. The DSWD promised to use the budget wisely (PSIFDC).
As ordered by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the DSWD will also give priority to service streamlining and digitization under the new leadership of Secretary Rex Gatchalian to ensure the prompt and effective delivery of social welfare and development programs for the underprivileged, marginalized, and vulnerable groups.
Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam are all members of ASEAN.
