For its careful implementation of the social pension fund for older persons in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), also known as Region 4A, Sampaloc town in Quezon was designated the model local government unit (LGU) for 2022.

1,632 of the town’s 1,800 elderly citizens who are registered to vote receive a PHP 500 monthly pension.

The LGU benefit is no longer available to people who receive other social pensions, such as those from the Social Security System.

During the senior citizen’s birthday month, an additional PHP 200 is given.

On Wednesday in Tagaytay City, Mayor Angelo Devanadera accepted the honor bestowed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development with the assistance of Municipal Social Welfare and Development officer Mylene Gariguez.

In a phone conversation on Sunday, Gariguez said the municipality was honored for implementing the social pension fund program at a 100 percent rate in all four quarters of the previous year.

According to the timeline provided to us, we quickly downloaded the funds from the national office designated for the social pension of our older citizens and disbursed them, according to Gariguez.

Gariguez acknowledged the honor to the collaboration all recipients showed in meeting their obligations.

She added that a senior adult who wishes to participate in the program does not have to be a registered voter in the community.

It suffices to have an identification card issued by the village or the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, she continued.
