South Korea and PH have bilateral meetings to reaffirm their close relationship.
At the 8th Philippine-South Korea Policy Consultation, which took place in Seoul on February 17, the Philippines and the Republic of Korea (ROK) reaffirmed their cordial and mutually beneficial relations and talked about measures to further advance their bilateral cooperation.
The Philippine delegation was led by Ma. Theresa Lazaro, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs, while First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyundong represented South Korea.
Defense and security, maritime engagement, trade, investments, energy, nuclear power, infrastructure, science and technology, information and communications technology cooperation, climate change, and people-to-people exchanges with a focus on tourism and consular cooperation were among the topics of extensive discussions between the two sides.
Also, they discussed regional and global events, such as ASEAN-ROK collaboration, the West Philippine Sea, the Korean Peninsula, the Ukrainian crisis, and international and multilateral cooperation.
The Philippine side listed a number of events planned to mark the 75th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Korea from March 2024 to March 2025.
The events will highlight the crucial facets of relationships across a variety of domains.
Undersecretary Lazaro declared that in pursuing initiatives and activities under various domains of collaboration, “not only will we walk together, but we will also run together” in the direction of their shared goals and objectives.
The two nations’ formalization of the transformation of their bilateral ties into a strategic partnership also advanced as a result of the meeting. It gave us a strong push to improve and broaden our cooperation in a variety of engagement areas.
In 2024, the Philippines and Korea will celebrate their diplomatic ties of 75 years.
The primary forum for extensive discussion between the foreign vice-ministers of the two nations to discuss a wide range of issues aimed at advancing effective cooperation towards the attainment of shared objectives and mutually beneficial interests is the Philippine-South Korean Policy Consultations.
