After a three-year break brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Panaad sa Negros Festival returned to Negros Occidental province on Tuesday afternoon.

The theme of the 27th iteration of the “festival of all festivals,” which will take place from April 17 to 23 at Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, is “The Promise Renewed.”

“The Hiligaynon word for “vow” or “promise” is “panaad”.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Negrenses are tremendously grateful that through God’s favor and grace, they can come together to inaugurate the year’s most anticipated event during ceremonies conducted at the Capital Lagoon and Park here.

“The event this year is more than just a continuation of the one we had to stop celebrating during the pandemic. In light of everything our province has through over the past three years, this celebration honors its tenacity, persistence, hope, and faith “added Lacson.

The governor expressed his confidence that the Panaad Festival will be “a big success and will represent the rebirth of better and brighter days” for the province and its people in front of Deputy Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, other provincial authorities, and city and municipal mayors.

The province will provide “a week of festivals, culture, arts, and a showcasing of the very best” of Negros Occidental, according to Cheryl Decena, executive director of the festival.

“It is anticipated to be even more impressive, brighter, and memorable. We have been working on it for three years and are absolutely committed to providing you an event that is worth your time and attention,” she continued.

The Lin-ay Sang Negros beauty contest and the competition of traditional festival dances are two of the main events of the Panaad Festival. This year, one of the highlights will be the “Best of Negros Goods” event.

The 32 cities and municipalities in the province, including the capital Bacolod City, will once more display their themed pavillions.

Each building is either modelled after their own municipal or city hall or one of their well-known items.
