Since the vaccine’s introduction in March 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Thursday, about 5 million people in Central Visayas had received the entire recommended course of vaccination against the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19).

The regional office of the department reported that 4.8 million people, or 84.64 percent of the region’s target population, had received all of their recommended vaccinations.

The 5.7 million people who make up the target population represent 70% of the total population of the area. The Philippine Statistics Authority estimated the population of Central Visayas at 8.1 million in 2022.

In the meantime, the primary doses of the Covid-19 vaccination have been administered to at least 414,242 senior citizens, or 61.18 percent of the target A2 group, which represents 85 percent of the senior citizen population in the area.

The health organization also stated that a total of 1.1 million people in the area had received booster doses.

From March 12 to March 18, DOH-7 reported 65 new Covid-19 cases in Central Visayas, with one recorded fatality.

Only nine new cases were listed on average each day this week, which is 81 percent more than the number of cases listed from March 5 to March 11. Not one of the new cases is regarded as important. From March 12 to March 18, one death was reported, according to the report.

Additionally, it cautioned Central Visayas residents against becoming complacent because the threat posed by COVID-19 still exists.

“We must keep up with the required minimum public health level. We are advised to always use a facemask that is the best fit and, if at all possible, to stay in well-ventilated settings, says the Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development. Isolate right away if you see any symptoms, it is advised.
