Catholics in the Philippines are urged to pray for Pope Francis’ quick recovery
The Pope, who is being treated for respiratory infections in the hospital, has asked the Filipino faithful to pray for his speedy recovery.
“Let us pray for Pope Francis as he receives treatment for respiratory illnesses at the Gemelli Hospital here in Rome (not Covid). In a message released on Thursday to Church-run Radio Veritas, Fr. Greg Gaston, rector of the Pontificio Collegio Filippino in Rome, said, “He conveys his gratitude to all of us for our prayers and closeness with him in spirit.
Pope Francis has been having respiratory issues, but according to the Vatican, the coronavirus epidemic of 2019 is not the root of his ailment.
The Holy Pope expresses his gratitude to all who prayed for his rapid recovery in the Vatican statement. “At a young age, even before he became a priest, the Holy Pope had one of his lungs removed due to a lung infection since he was sensitive to disease,” said Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni.
Pope Francis is moved by the numerous letters he has received and thanks everyone for their prayers and closeness.
Archbishop Charles Brown, the papal nuncio, also urged the faithful to remember the pontiff in their prayers during this week of Lent.
In a video message posted on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website, he said, “I want to ask each and every one of you to pray in a special way during Holy Week for Pope Francis. As I am speaking to you this morning here in Apostolic nunciature, I’ve just received word that he has just been taken to the hospital. God willing, there’s nothing too serious but we need to pray for Pope Francis.”
The Vatican Envoy to the Philippines continued, “I beg you, please, during this unique time, to pray for Pope Francis, pray for his good health and his rapid recovery. This is the ninth Easter that the pope will celebrate in Rome as our Holy Father.
The pope underwent colon surgery in July 2021.
Also, he has had such bad knee pain that he frequently requires a wheelchair and a cane.
Easter Sunday will be April 9, and Palm Sunday will be April 2, and Pope Francis will offer Masses in Rome on both days.
