Early 2024 may see the start of actual Bataan-Cavite bridge construction.
The Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) is expected to begin construction in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Barangay Alas-asin in Mariveles, Bataan will be connected to Barangay Timalan Concepcion in Naic, Cavite by the 32.15-kilometer, four-lane BCIB, cutting the travel time from five hours to roughly 45 minutes.
According to Teresita Bauzon, project manager for the DPWH, “Maybe we can start packages 1 and 2 this year and we could buy the other packages of this project till next year.”
According to her, the construction may continue till the middle of 2028.
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) financing will be used to fund the project.
The National Economic Development Authority and the ADB are currently in negotiations to fund the construction, according to Bauzon.
At the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific in Mariveles, Bataan, on Friday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. presided over the milestone ceremony for the project’s detailed engineering design.
Marcos urged DPWH representatives, staff members, and consultants to be dedicated to completing the BCIB on time.
Try your best to always make sure that the civil construction of this bridge starts by October of this year, he advised. Try your best to implement what we have suggested as well, so that our people and their communities can quickly achieve the vision we have outlined for them.
Beginning in March 2018, the project’s feasibility study was sponsored by a loan from the ADB’s Infrastructure Preparedness and Innovation Fund.
