Airport operations have been “smooth” thus far despite the Easter Week exodus, according to BI.

The Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) activities at airports are now operating smoothly, according to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco on Thursday.

He stated that on Wednesday, more than 40,000 departures were registered, while nearly 35,000 passengers entered the nation.

When he undertook an inspection of the BI’s operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1, 2, and 3, the BI chief also advised terminal heads to regularly monitor queues to ensure the efficient processing of passengers.

The Bureau already announced that it would deploy 155 additional immigration agents during Holy Week.

36 fresh immigration officers who recently completed their training at the Philippine Immigration Academy will also be sent out by the BI.

Tansingco is also committed to enhancing the services provided by frontline employees.

“We recently held a seminar for supervisors to hone their skills in dealing with concerns and issues they may meet while on duty. I’ve told our frontline staff to carry out our mission effectively and professionally,” he said.

On Thursday, the BI ordered a probe into the widespread complaints made on the social networking platform Tiktok.

Tansingco additionally demanded that the involved immigration officers deliver their reports to his office.

According to reports, a 28-year-old female traveler complained to the Office of the Ombudsman about a male immigration officer for conducting apparently protracted interrogation that resulted in her missing her flight.

She presented herself for primary inspection only 23 minutes before the boarding gate closed, and it was confirmed by checking with the BI’s system that she was quickly processed by the immigration officer before being allowed to board.

The organization also responded to a Filipina’s post in which she stated that her active United Arab Emirates (UAE) visa prevented her from leaving.

According to Tansingco, her travel records were checked, and it was discovered that she had previously left as a tourist but ended up working in the Arab world without the necessary papers. Her current journey also revealed a similar pattern of travel, this time with a companion.

The agency added that they had cause to believe she may be bringing Filipinos to Abu Dhabi through recruitment.

“We will continue this investigation after discovering posts about her seeking employment abroad. We are considering referring the case to further government organizations so they can investigate the alleged recruitment operation, the official continued.

It also dealt with rumors that a worker had tried to demand money from a male seafarer who wished to visit Paris under dubious conditions.

Even though the act was not completed, the BI stated that they are looking into the event and are awaiting the seafarer’s formal report.

Only a small percentage of travelers face secondary inspection, according to Tansingco.

Just about 0.6 percent of departing passengers are stopped, mostly due to an inconsistency between their travel credentials and their intended destination or because they showed signs of having been the victims of human trafficking or unlawful recruiting, according to the official.

Ordinary visitors shouldn’t be concerned when they travel abroad, he continued.
