Atkins’ cold storage plant in South Luzon is powered by Meralco.
In support of the government’s initiative to maintain food security in the nation, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has made sure the newest cold storage facility of Atkins Import and Export Resources Inc. is promptly powered on.
The newest Atkins facility, the largest in South Luzon, is situated in Naic town, Cavite province, and uses a 976.8 kWp solar panel system that was installed by Spectrum, a renewable energy firm owned by Meralco.
The business now joins the list of businesses that have employed Meralco and Spectrum to help them progress their sustainability objectives through renewable energy.
“Our partners can be sure to obtain top-tier quality and dependable support to achieve sustainable operations with Spectrum’s end-to-end solar energy offering. As this new cold storage is a crucial addition to ensuring food security across the country, rest assured that Spectrum will also provide the support Atkins will need to make sure that its solar generating system is operating without a hitch, Spectrum chief operating officer Patrick Henry Panlilio said in a statement on Monday.
Atkins has six cold storage facilities in Luzon, but Cavite’s is the first to use clean energy.
The solar project is anticipated to save Atkins about PHP9.5 million in annual energy expenditures while producing 1,362,100 kWh of clean energy per year.
Also, it will lessen Atkins’ carbon footprint by 970 tonnes, which equates to planting over 44,500 trees or avoiding driving nearly 3.9 million fewer kilometers annually.
Quality meat products, primarily sourced from throughout the globe, are imported and distributed by Atkins.
With a thorough understanding of energy consumption trends and strategic alliances with top-tier technology partners, Spectrum delivers unique solutions for industrial, commercial, and residential customers, supported by Meralco’s energy expertise and demonstrated safety track record.
Meralco actively participated in guaranteeing the prompt delivery of service to Atkins’ cold storage facility as part of its commitment to providing stable and dependable energy to its clients.
The business assisted in obtaining right-of-way permissions and offered the crucial technical support required for Atkins to achieve the energization deadline.
“With this agreement, Atkins and Meralco achieved a significant milestone because this facility is essential to assuring our food supply. The project confirms Meralco’s dedication to actively supporting and invigorating agricultural ventures that open the door to nation-building. We hope that the opening of this ground-breaking facility will spark important discussions about food security and inspire people in the food and beverage sector to follow Atkins’ example, said Ma. Cecilia Domingo, vice president and head of Meralco’s corporate business group.
The largest electric distribution company in the nation, Meralco, supports regional businesses that are essential to ensuring equitable and sustainable growth in the nation.
