Pulse Asia: Marcos and Duterte continue to enjoy high levels of support and trust

According to a Pulse Asia study released on Wednesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte had strong popularity and trust ratings in March.

Marcos received approval and trust scores of 78 percent and 80 percent, respectively, according to the “Ulat ng Bayan” poll, which was held from March 15 to 19.

Duterte received ratings of 83 percent for approval and 85 percent for trust.

The pollster noted that the presidential and vice presidential ratings were “virtually unchanged” between November 2022 and March 2023.

Additionally, it stated both Duterte and Marcos have majority approval ratings across all regions and socioeconomic categories.

Marcos and Duterte are the only two prominent national leaders that received majority trust ratings from the Filipino populace.

According to the Pulse Asia poll, the Marcos administration received “small to huge majority approval ratings” on seven out of the twelve issues examined.

A 76 percent rating was given to the Marcos administration for meeting the needs of disaster-stricken areas.

According to the study, 75% of respondents valued the efforts made by the Marcos administration to ensure the well-being of Filipino workers abroad.

The Marcos administration received ratings of 68 percent for reducing crime and 64 percent for fostering peace, respectively.

For upholding the rule of law, the Marcos administration obtained a 54 percent rating, a 60 percent rating for environmental protection, and a 61 percent rating for safeguarding national territorial integrity.

The majority approval rating for the top officials in both houses of Congress—Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and House of Representatives Speaker Ferdinand Romualdez—was 51 percent in the same poll.

In contrast, the same proportion of Filipino people either agree (43 percent) or are undecided (41 percent) about Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo’s quarterly performance.

Zubiri scored 48 percent on the trust scale, Romualdez 44 percent, and Gesmundo 39 percent.

Face-to-face interviews were used throughout the survey’s fieldwork, which took place from March 15 to March 19.

Based on a sample of 1,200 representative persons aged 18 and over, a national poll was conducted. At a 95 percent confidence level, the error margin is 2.8 percent.
