As he participated in the celebration of Eid’l Fitr, the holiday marking the breaking of the fast, on Friday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. urged the Muslim community to uphold the principles and teachings of Ramadan.

“May you sustain the values, teachings, and practices that you have wholeheartedly discerned and embodied throughout this time,” he wished in his message as Muslims around the world celebrated the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

As you continue to carry out good activities and make an effort to live a virtuous life, “let this form the foundations of your characters.”

The Muslim community is joined by the Filipino people in celebrating Eid’l Fitr, according to Marcos, because “we recognize the Islamic faith and embrace it as part of our own collective consciousness.”

“As a diverse group of peoples, we can transcend any challenge and still remain unified under the banners of camaraderie, respect, and love,” he said. “With our many faiths informing all our actions and bridging all our differences as a diverse set of peoples.”

Marcos stressed the significance of the event, adding that it symbolizes how Allah blesses individuals who have shown perseverance throughout Ramadan.

According to the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is observed for between 29 and 30 days, depending on when the crescent moon is visible.

The Muslim community begins the day with the Eid prayer to mark the conclusion of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Muslims greet one another with the traditional Eid greeting, Eid Mubarak, after praying.
