It is still not advised to give Covid-19 booster shots to children aged five to eleven.

In a media briefing on Tuesday, Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the officer in charge of the Department of Health (DOH), stated that the nation’s health specialists properly examined the non-recommendation based on scientific facts.

“Even in the studies released by the WHO, even other credible institutions, say that there is still no value to recommend boosters for” children aged 12 and under, she said.

The fact that they are fully immunized is crucial because it keeps them protected against COVID-19, she continued.

The administration of second booster shots for the general public and healthy individuals 18 years of age and under started last week, but there hasn’t yet been a thorough evaluation of the results.

Vergeire remarked, “Siguro po (Perhaps) toward the end of the week, we can get our weekly achievement for our second booster shots.”

The DOH has informed the public about the second booster shots, and regional offices of the Centers for Health Development have already designated health centers as immunization sites, so there won’t be any National Immunization Days for those shots, she noted.

More than 78.4 million Filipinos, including 10.2 million teenagers, 5.6 million youngsters, and 7.2 million seniors, had received all of their recommended vaccinations as of March 20.

Around 23.8 million people have already had their first booster shot, and 4.4 million have already received their second.
