On May 17, CAAP reduced system maintenance to 2 hours.
The six-hour repair window for the Philippine radar system on May 17 has been reduced to two hours.
Instead of midnight to 6 a.m., the new timetable is now set for 2 to 4 a.m., the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced on Friday.
The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is being replaced, and the air traffic management system (ATMS) is being upgraded as part of the Philippine Air Traffic Management Center’s corrective maintenance.
According to Eric Apolonio, a spokesman for CAAP, the repair task can be completed in around 4.5 hours, and CAAP merely allotted six hours so that flights wouldn’t be completely disrupted if problems arose.
When questioned about the modification, he responded that it had been determined that the action could be sped up after consultations.
According to the Philippine News Agency, “It was agreed that the maintenance work could be hastened by providing additional people and a standby UPS after rigorous analysis, simulation, interaction with CAAP’s technical team, and service provider.
To lessen the impact on air traffic operations, the CAAP stated it is prepared to conduct contingency plans in direct conjunction with nearby Flight Information Regions.
“CAAP reassures the public that every effort is being made to maintain the effectiveness and safety of air travel while maintenance work is being done. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this schedule change may have caused.
Apolonio previously stated that it is up to airline firms to determine whether to postpone or cancel scheduled flights that maintenance activities may impact.
Local carriers have not yet made public the list of flights they will reschedule or cancel as of Friday afternoon.
