Delegates and state guests during the ASEAN Summit drive electric vehicles
According to Assistant Logistics for the Presidential Guard (Paspampres) Lieutenant Colonel Infantry Fanny Pantouw, electric vehicles were used by delegates and state guests during the 42nd ASEAN Summit, which will take place May 9–11, 2023, in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.
During the summit, which will have participants from 10 ASEAN nations, the state chiefs in attendance will also drive electric vehicles.
In an interview with ANTARA on Wednesday, Pantouw said, “This vehicle is for use by state guests, along with security and escort at the front and rear.
He noted that there were 395 electric cars and 90 electric motorcycles in all. These automobiles include the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Toyota bZ4X, and BMW iX. The fleet also includes Zero electric motorcycles built in the US.
The convoy included a security squad, a front guard team, and a rear guard team for conducting VVIP security operations. Delegate and protocol automobiles are part of this category, according to Pantouw.
It also comprises delegation and protocol vehicles in a single series. To facilitate the convening of the ASEAN Summit, this would be manipulated in Labuan Bajo, he said.
The delegates’ electric vehicles, especially those utilized for the ASEAN Summit, had their interiors and exteriors slightly updated to improve security.
The improvement complies with military requirements for protecting state heads and state visitors at the level of state heads and government heads.
There has been a little upgrade for security requirements. To enhance security and field operations, we slightly updated the interior and exterior to military specifications, he said.
The Presidential Guard Equipment Detachment has taken a number of precautions to ensure that the operating vehicles of the delegation are not damaged while at the event.
Together with the experts from the vehicle manufacturer, soldiers are prepared to manage any unanticipated circumstances in the field.
“We are prepared, with the features included. Our soldiers, who work in security, have received training, he said.
“The Equipment Detachment is also ready to carry out maintenance if damage occurs,” Pantouw said.
