In its Measles-Rubella and bivalent oral polio vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activities (MR-OPV SIA), the Department of Health-Zamboanga Peninsula (DOH-9) recorded a vaccination rate of 60% for the first two weeks.

Due to their vulnerability to vaccine-preventable diseases, the campaign aims to vaccinate children aged nine to 59 months against measles-rubella and those aged zero to 59 months with OPV.

Dr. Joshua Brillantes, director of DOH-9, reported on Tuesday that 223,782 people, or 60% of the total 374,081 eligible population, had received a measles vaccination.

Likewise, bOPV was administered to 40,640 people or 68% of the 59,338 eligible individuals.

Not all regions are included in the bOPV SIA. The decision is made based on the likelihood of outbreaks and the coverage of regular vaccinations, according to Brillantes.

To reduce the danger of vaccine-preventable disease consequences and the resurgence of outbreaks, he urged parents and guardians to have their eligible children receive the MR-bOPV SIA vaccination.

Asserting that vaccines are safe and effective, Brillantes added, “With your support and collaboration, we can preserve our children, the future of our country from vaccine-preventable diseases.

During the supplemental vaccination campaigns, which began on May 2 and will end on May 31, DOH-9 hopes to vaccinate 768,792 kids against MR and polio.

The region aims to immunize 354,774 children between the ages of 9 and 59 months with MR injections and 414,018 children between the ages of 0 and 59 months with bOPV.
