DOH issues a public health advisory regarding ailments brought on by El Nino.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health (DOH) issued a public health advisory regarding potential ailments linked to the El Nino season.

The DOH urged the public to exercise caution in a message to reporters on Tuesday, warning that extreme heat, a lack of clean water, and frequent rains could result in illnesses like asthma, cholera, dengue, diarrhea, exhaustion, food poisoning, heat cramps, heat stroke, nausea, sunburn, typhoid fever, and other conditions due to the consumption of red tide-affected food.

The DOH said to avoid going outside between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

“Wear light-colored clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Whenever you have to be in the sun, bring an umbrella.

The DOH urged the public and school administrators to follow the 5S strategy, which includes looking for and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, supporting self-defense measures like wearing insect repellents, seeking early advice at the nearest medical facility, supporting fogging, spraying, and misting in hot spot areas, and supporting hydration.

The DOH stated that everyone must take the initiative to reduce mosquito populations and prevent any potential dengue deaths in the neighborhood as part of the 5S strategy’s implementation.

“Our primary care and KonsulTayo services are available for our health and consultation services.”

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), which anticipates the emergence of the weather phenomena in June, raised the El Nino alert status earlier this month.

According to PAGASA, it may result in periods of dry weather and rainfall that is below average, and some regions of the country may face droughts.

In the coming weeks, it was predicted that the temperature will stay around 40°C in the National Capital Region and other places.
