In the coming year, 45% of Filipinos expect their quality of life to improve.
A Social Weather Stations (SWS) poll found that 45% of adult Filipinos believe their lives will improve during the next 12 months.
According to a survey from March 26 to March 29, 2023, 42% of participants think their quality of life would remain the same, while only 6% think it will decline.
The final 7% of respondents remained silent.
The net personal optimism score was +38, which SWS deemed to be a “very high” level.
The SWS reported that the most recent net optimism score was six points lower than the “excellent” +44 mark set in December 2022, noting that declines in all categories brought on the 6-point decline.
Balance Luzon saw a 6 point drop from +43 to +37, the Visayas saw a 10 point drop from +37 to +27, and Metro Manila saw a 4 point drop from +49 to +45.
In Mindanao, the score barely changed from +48 to +47.
Despite a decline from +52 to +45, the study found that net personal optimism among those who completed post-secondary coursework or graduated from college remained “excellent.”
It also maintained good performance among individuals who completed junior high school, attended some vocational education, completed senior high school, attended some vocational school, or attended some college, though slightly less so from +46 to +42.
In March 2022, net personal optimism decreased for individuals who had either completed elementary school or had some high school education, as well as for those with no formal education or only some primary education, from +40 in December 2022 to +28.
Net personal optimism was also higher in non-hungry families (+39) and households (+50) that perceived themselves as not impoverished.
1,200 participants from around the country were contacted for face-to-face interviews for the study. The sample error margins for national percentages were 2.8 percent; for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, they were 5.7 percent each.
