Filipinos who meet the requirements can enter Canada without a visa.

Philippines citizens who meet the requirements can now enter Canada without a visa if they are flying for business or pleasure, thanks to Canada’s inclusion of the country in its Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) program.

“Canada is a popular travel destination for people all over the world. In a statement sent by the Canadian Embassy on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated, “We’re making it easier for more people to visit Canada, whether traveling to do business, take in the sights, or reconnect with family and friends.

“We look to further engage in the region, build on people-to-people ties, and make travel to Canada easier, faster, and safer for everyone,” the statement continued. “Expanding the eTA program to include countries like the Philippines is also an important part of our Indo-Pacific Strategy.”

According to the Canadian Embassy in Manila, the addition is effective immediately. It covers holders of Philippine passports who have held a valid United States non-immigrant visa or a Canadian guest visa during the previous ten years.

As a result of the inclusion, qualified Filipinos need to apply for an eTA rather than a visa.

To undertake light-touch and pre-travel screening of air travelers, Canadian officials employ the eTA application through Canada.ca/etA, which costs 7 Canadian dollars, or around PHP300.

Most applications are immediately granted within minutes, according to the embassy.

Meanwhile, those with a valid visa may continue to enter Canada using it.

Canadian official praises “high point” in Relations with Philippines

Those not qualified for an eTA or entering Canada by a method other than air (such as by ship, bus, train, or car) will still require a visiting visa.

According to the Canadian Embassy, the introduction of visa-free air travel will make it quicker, simpler, and more economical for thousands of known Filipino tourists to visit Canada for up to six months for either business or pleasure. “It will also help facilitate more travel, tourism, and international business between our countries, as well as help strengthen people-to-people and cultural ties.”

The country’s membership in Canada’s Transit Without Visa program, which permits eligible Filipino nationals to fly through Canada on their way to or from the US without a Canadian visa, as well as the Student Direct Stream, which offers expedited study permit processing to those who are applying to study in Canada, are just two examples of Canada’s existing mobility measures for the Philippines.

Enrique Manalo, Canada’s foreign affairs secretary, hailed the inclusion as a “milestone and a striking indication of Canada’s growing friendship and trust in the Philippines” and its significance on the Filipino population.

Considering Canada to be a close partner because of their long-standing friendship, Manalo stated, “The Philippines looks forwards to charting a new era of engagement under this new policy.”

Following Manalo and Joly’s meeting in May in Makati City, Canada made its most recent move.

During the visit, Manalo and Joly decided to strengthen their current bilateral collaboration in the socioeconomic, political, and security fields and start new projects primarily concerned with financing climate action.

Along with Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Costa Rica, Morocco, Panama, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Seychelles, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay, the Philippines is one of 13 nations that have joined the eTA.

Canada has granted inhabitants of the Philippines 466,936 temporary resident visas over the past ten years.

According to the embassy, these people may now qualify for visa-free travel, along with those who currently possess US non-immigrant visas.
