NCRPO would send around 21K officers to the 2nd SONA of PBBM.
On Wednesday, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced that it would send out 21,581 officers to guard the July 24 SONA of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
The “commander on the ground,” NCRPO chief Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, stated that of the 21,581 personnel, 17,121 will come from the NCRPO’s five districts, and 4,460 will come from other government organizations, including the Philippine Coast Guard, NCRPO Regional Support Units, Aviation Security Group, Special Action Force, Joint Task Force NCR, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Office of the Civil Defence, Department of Health, and Metropo.
According to Okubo, 4,405 members of the Reactionary Standby Support Force will work as an augmentation/strike force that is prepared to despatch more troops if necessary.
He continued by saying that security at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, where the SONA will take place, will receive the majority of the focus, while the 31 border control posts will be set up in places where people are known to enter and leave Metro Manila.
To avoid any threat to the public’s safety, Okubo stated that Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) contingents are also prepared if groups participate in violent protest actions in restricted locations.
The National Capital Region’s ban on carrying weapons outside of homes will take effect from 12:01 a.m. on July 24 until 12:01 a.m. on the same day.

In a statement, Okubo added that “our citizens can hope that the NCRPO respects your right to express your view and that it depends on your ongoing collaboration and solidarity in the current prosperous and peaceful second SONA of our President.
The SONA is a constitutional requirement and yearly custom in which the President updates Congress on the state of the nation, reveals the government’s objectives for the upcoming year and suggests new legislation.
By the 1987 Constitution, the SONA will take place “every year on the fourth Monday of July.” Additionally, it ushers in a fresh regular session of Congress.
