The Philippines and Singapore have improved their regional terrorism cooperation.

Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr., secretary of the Department of National Defence (DND), met on June 13 with See Sin Yuan, Singapore’s ambassador to the Philippines.

“Highlighting the shared interests within the region between the two countries, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the Arrangement on the Assignment of a Team to the Regional Counter-Terrorism Information Facility in Singapore,” said DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong in a statement on Friday.

“Secretary Teodoro said that the Arrangement is a significant step towards enhancing the bilateral defense cooperation between the Philippines and Singapore.”

The Singaporean diplomat added that following the recent signing of the Arrangement Concerning Education, Training Assistance and Support Activities on Human Assistance and Disaster Relief, there would be increased cooperation between the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

This occurred with the Shangri-La Dialogue, which was held from June 2 to 4.

Andolong said, “(this) would allow the AFP and the SAF to work closely together and develop trust for future cooperation.”

He added that both officials reaffirmed their nations’ shared stance on following international law.

“Secretary Teodoro also expressed appreciation for Singapore’s support and investment to the Philippines, particularly in cybersecurity and digitalization,” the source continued.
