DOH will begin administering bivalent vaccines on June 21.
On June 21, 2023, the bivalent coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines will be given as booster doses by the Department of Health (DOH).
The Philippine Heart Centre in Quezon City will serve as the starting point for the bivalent vaccination program for the eligible population, according to a news release issued by the DOH on Friday.
Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the president, will attend the event.
Early this month, the government of Lithuania donated 390,000 doses of bivalent vaccine to the nation.
Teodoro Herbosa, the health secretary, has given the DOH executive committee members instructions to step up vaccination campaigns to further safeguard the public from the virus, especially the elderly and healthcare professionals (A1 and A2, respectively), and to prevent vaccine waste.
The Government of Health (DOH) offered instructions on handling and administering the donated bivalent vaccines in a government document published on March 31, 2023.
According to the memorandum, persons can obtain bivalent immunizations for at least four to six months following their second booster dosage.
“We still encourage all eligible people to get vaccinated as the threat of infection still exists,” Herbosa added, “despite the decreasing trend of the Covid-19 positivity rate of 11.6 percent in the National Capital Region as of June 10.”
He urged everyone to stay alert, especially the elderly, high-risk people with comorbid conditions, and the healthcare industry.
About 78,443,972 people had received the complete course of Covid-19 vaccination as of March 19, whereas 23,811,248 had received the supplementary doses.
