To help the area’s micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has already opened 145 Negosyo Centres in Eastern Visayas.

The commerce department constructed a facility inside the campuses of Eastern Visayas State University in this city and Visayas State University in Baybay City, in addition to business centers in seven cities and 136 towns in the region.

According to Celerina Bato, regional director for DTI Eastern Visayas, practically all centers are housed on the grounds of the city or municipal halls to make the services more accessible to MSMEs.

“Through our Negosyo Centres, clients can complement their business information and training needs with our schedule of activities and a wide array of data at our disposal,” Bato stated in an interview on Monday.

According to Bato, these centers, established from 2014 to this year, have offered sales opportunities and capacity development initiatives.

The Negosyo Centre Programme assists MSMEs in accessing services and increasing the ease of doing business. This is required by Republic Act 10644, popularly referred to as the “Go Negosyo Act,” which aims to support MSMEs and expand employment prospects in the nation.

Five centers were created across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao islands when the program began in 2014. Since then, other centers have been established nationwide, offering ease of doing business to MSMEs in every region.

MSMEs are any industry, agribusiness, or service-related business activity or enterprise, whether a sole proprietorship, cooperative, partnership, or corporation, with total assets under PHP3 million for micro, PHP15 million for small businesses, and PHP100 million for medium-sized businesses.
