Board test failures are permitted to work as nursing assistants under PRC.

According to a statement by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), nursing graduates who have not yet passed the licensing exam may work as nursing assistants.

According to PRC Commissioner Jose Cueto Jr., Teodoro Herbosa’s earlier statement regarding hiring non-board passes included this practice.

“On the way to taking or re-taking the licensure examinations, that may be a good strategy,” Cueto said in a CNN televised interview.

Their responsibilities, including the boundaries of their practice, will be outlined, and they will work under the direction of trained and licensed nurses.

Cueto acknowledged that employing nursing assistants would not replace the experienced nurses who leave for countries with higher compensation.

Nurses with experience in the intensive care unit, recovery room, operating room, and emergency department are frequently hired abroad.

According to Department of Health (DOH) data as of 2021, over half of the 600,000 licensed nurses are migrant nurses.

Nurses can earn between PHP33,000 and PHP35,000 under salary grade 15 offered by the DOH.

According to Cueto, popular nurse destinations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand, offer high incomes and greater perks than the DOH can match.

However, the government may recruit 50% of the nation’s licensed nurses and persuade them to work in hospitals to benefit the populace.

The PRC registration shows that these nurses either have unspecified practice or have chosen to pursue other careers instead of working in the 42,000 or 110,000 private hospitals, respectively.

According to Cueto, it’s crucial to consider the nurses’ career paths inside the facility of their choice.

He asked What they will achieve or look like after practicing for ten years, fifteen to twenty years, he asked.

“This needs to be defined for healthcare workers, municipal health officers, people working in district hospitals, and all health professionals.”

An approach to keep nurses in their positions is to enhance the working environment for those who work in public hospitals.

In addition to working circumstances, he added, “I’m not sure, but educational benefits for their children can also work.”
